Maintaining Your Heater in the Winter

Maintaining Your Heater in the Winter

Winter often sneaks up on us - and our homes! It's important to prepare and maintain certain aspects of your house before and during the winter, perhaps most importantly, your heater! Regular maintenance will prevent you from finding your heater broken one cold day.

  • Clean or replace the filter. A dirty or old filter stops the heat from flowing, causing the furnace to work harder and deliver you less heat. You should check the filter monthly.
  • Ensure the vents in your house are unobstructed, allowing heat to flow freely throughout the house. Vacuum dust and debris from the vents. Blocked vents make the heater work harder, driving up the bill and can result in an overheated furnace.
  • Make sure the thermostat is working correctly. Turn on the heat at the thermostat and see what happens.

Inspecting and maintaining your heater can save you time and money in the long run. Approximately 75% of calls to our HVAC technicians are related to lack of maintenance. If your heater suddenly stops working, it can leave you and your family in the cold and be several days before a technician can service it. Some manufacturers require furnace service appointments to maintain the warranty. If your heater is malfunctioning or you have not performed regular maintenance lately, Call All-Pro AC and Heating at (254) 624-4917 to talk to an experienced technician today!
